Types
There are two primary types of colon cleansing: home colon cleansing and colon cleansing at a colonic clinic.
Home colon cleansing is done in the privacy of your home while colon cleansing at a colonic clinic is done with the aid of a colonic hydrotherapist.
If you have your own bathroom, you will feel the most secure when starting a home colon cleanse. If you share your bathroom with other people in the home, it’s important that not everyone starts home colon cleansing at the same time! There will be too many people beating on the door of the bathroom trying to get in! And if that happens when you are the one sitting on the throne, the fear you experience if they break in while you’re sitting there is enough to slow down the colon!
Seriously though, if you do share your bathroom with other people in the home, simply decide who will start it first, second and third. Give each person about a week headstart. It takes about a week to establish regularity.
The first few days of a home colon cleansing are the most variable. You never know what to expect. Will you have little ‘explosions’ or will you simply experience more movements? Only you can find out!
What Happens at a Colonic Clinic
The second option of colon cleansing is to have it done by a colonic hydrotherapist at a clinic. Here’s the procedure:
- You fill out the paperwork about your general health and background.
- The colonic hydrotherapist talks with you about what you wrote, seeking clarification on anything. She then decides whether or not you should receive a colonic.
- Once you are approved, you undress and wear a gown that opens to the back.
- You lie on your side on the therapist’s table and the speculum is inserted into your rectum.
- Slowly, you turn over on your back and she begins to send a trickle of water into your colon. When you feel the pressure rise in your colon, you tell her and then it’s time to empty the colon of its contents. The old fecal matter comes out automatically in the hose connected to the speculum.
- The same process is repeated (Step #5) over and over again for the next 35 minutes. Then you’re finished. Your colon is clean for the day.
Many people choose home colon cleansing over a colonic hydrotherapist because they are sensitive, shy or bashful about their bottom. However, most hydrotherapists are very compassionate people that understand how to make you feel more comfortable in such a setting.
Even if you choose to see a colonic hydrotherapist, it doesn’t mean that you will not have to do home colon cleansing. In between sessions, it’s recommended that you take enemas, use herbal aids and change your diet to foster a cleaner colon.
The advantage of having hydrotherapy is that it gets you used to seeing your own fecal matter and understanding what it should be like, what it should smell like and what the variances mean. This is valuable knowledge. After a few sessions, you will know enough to go home to start your home colon cleansing.
